At the end of our August blog I wrote that early September I got to fulfil a dream. While driving around playa Preciosa (Osa, CR) we happened to notice a hatchery for turtle eggs. Very interesting but there was nobody there to ask anything and we didn’t have any cellphone reception to call the number on the sign. We hung around a bit and then just as we wanted to leave, a car drove up and it turned out to be one of the conservationists.
He told us that in the next two days some turtle eggs would hatch and the baby turtles would be released. If we wanted to, we could watch it the 2nd day! I love turtles, I don’t really know why, I just do. And of course baby turtles are even cuter than adult turtles, so seeing them was something I wanted for a long time. We have been in other countries where they have sea turtles too, but we were always either way too early or just too late. So of course we stayed at the beach and two days later we got up at 6 am to see the release. They released 450 turtles, 2 different species; Olive ridley and Hawskbill. To see the little creatures crawling in the ocean was magnificent!
